Test drive some of those cars and leave your resume in the glovebox

Networking at its finest! Get to know some ultra-rich people with too much money

I decided to post a new thread rather than add onto carsoffortlangley’s thread because his wasn’t a new thread just an edit of the original one, and the comments would get buried, and I already commented on that one while it was still 30k and not 50k yet.

People with reserve prices are cowards. Just start the bidding at that price if you really must have a certain amount of money for it. Unmet reserves are a waste of time for everyone bidding, the site itself, and any staff involved.

Also, does shill bidding happen on BaT a lot ?

I get the impression that shill bidding is less common than on Fleabay, but I’m sure that it happens.

The buyers fee should at least reduce shills a little - that’s going to be paid if a shill wins the auction.

Reserves don’t bother me as long as they’re reasonable. And any auction house should be evaluating and agreeing to reserves - nosebleed reserves waste the auctioneers time, too.

BaT has final cut on reserve/no reserve starting price and all that, and they employ that often haha.

Shill bidding absolutely happens. I doubt it is as common as on eBay, but I have seen it first hand. I came across a local car I knew of and saw a bid from a guy I know (not friends, just know of  each other). I know these two people know each other personally, so if they wanted to do a sale, they wouldn’t have went thru bat. Then I dug into both their bidding histories, and it looked like they were bidding on each other’s cars for some time. Granted, this could very much be the exception, but where there is money to be made, there is always someone who will exploit it.
